BCP and Dorset Libraries provide a free delivery of books and talking books from each of their libraries to those who find it difficult to access the library themselves; it can be delivered short or long term, and is available to carers. Books are chosen individually for each person, and delivered every 3 or 4 weeks by a Royal Voluntary Service volunteer, providing not only a regular supply of new reading materials, but also a much looked forward to visit.
We have strong teams of volunteers in both Christchurch and Highcliffe Libraries, and we would welcome new referrals to our service.

Accessible Countryside for Everyone (ACE) is an independent voluntary project, it is here to provide information and promote accessibility to leisure in the countryside of England – primarily aimed at those with mobility issues, there carers and families.
England has some of the most fantastic countryside, from mountains and valleys to rolling hills, scenic coast, wooded valleys and open moors.
There are thousands of miles of public footpaths, bridleways, green lanes, trails and tracks however I have found that so little appears to be accessible to those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, parents with buggies or those with mobility impairment who find stiles difficult to negotiate.
I am not able to remove the obstacles but I can publicise the places that are accessible. We all have a right to enjoy the countryside and my hope is that this site will help in making it more accessible to more people. The Countryside IS for Everyone.
We provide rehabilitation support at home and in hospital to help people recover from injury or illness, and to live as independently as possible.
Our physiotherapists, occupational therapists and rehab nurses offer assessment, care and therapy for patients across Dorset. This support means that some people can avoid a stay in hospital, while others can be safely discharged from hospital as soon as possible.
We can also bring in other specialists, such as speech and language therapists or social care workers, if necessary.
The support available ranges from short-term, intensive help for up to six weeks, to longer term therapy for people with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or strokes, which require more sustained help.

We may be able to help you if you, or a member of your family, have a long term illness or disability and need financial help towards the cost of equipment, home adaptations or other essential items to improve your independence, comfort, safety and quality of life at home.
You must be in financial need and unable to afford the equipment or building work yourself or to obtain the funding that you require from statutory services.
Our grants are often used together with funds raised from other charities and sometimes from statutory services to complete the purchase.
You have to be referred to us by a professional worker from health, social care or a charity that is in contact with you or your family member. When you have a referrer please ask them to go to the ‘how to apply’ page of this website.
